Warren Buffett, the iconic investor, has made some notable changes to his portfolio recently. Berkshire Hathaway, his conglomerate, disclosed that it sold nearly half of its Apple stake last quarter, sparking curiosity among investors and analysts. Despite this move, Apple still remains Berkshire’s largest holding, with a market value of $84.2 billion as of June.

Approximately 72% of Berkshire’s equity portfolio is concentrated in just five stocks, according to the latest earnings report. Aside from Apple, the company’s top holdings include Bank of America, Chevron, Coca-Cola, and American Express. Notably, Berkshire recently initiated a selling streak for Bank of America shares, decreasing its stake from $41.1 billion to an estimated $37 billion.

Buffett’s long-standing investments in Coca-Cola and American Express have also gained attention. Despite some adjustments, these two stocks remain significant in Berkshire’s portfolio, with market values of $25.5 billion and $35.1 billion, respectively, at the end of the second quarter. Coca-Cola shares have surged more than 17% this year, while American Express has seen a 24% increase, outperforming the S&P 500 in 2024 so far.

In the second quarter, Buffett was notably in a “selling mood,” shedding over $75 billion in stocks. This move significantly boosted Berkshire’s cash reserves to an impressive $277 billion. However, even with these sales, the top five holdings in Berkshire’s portfolio have remained relatively consistent between the first and second quarters.

Warren Buffett’s portfolio shifts have undoubtedly caught the attention of the investment community. While some may question his motives behind selling large portions of his Apple stake, it is evident that his strategic decision-making and focus on long-term value investing continue to drive Berkshire Hathaway’s success. As the legendary investor navigates market uncertainties and opportunities, investors and analysts will be closely monitoring his next moves in the ever-evolving landscape of financial markets.
